RE: Lake Ozarks Campground close to activities by boat?

We stayed at Deer Valley two years ago and they put our boat in for a small fee. It was very convenient to the dam area and it is located at the end of a large quiet cove. The pizza at Frankie and Louie's is the best I've ever had and I'm from Chicago. Their boat slips are all fairly new and because of being on the quiet cove, they don't get knocked around too much. The CG is also convenient to town by road. We are thinking of another trip back, maybe next year.

RE: Houston area attractions & campgrounds.

My brother lives in the area and they said that NASA is no big shake. Agree with the recommendation for Kemah Boardwalk. Moody complex is pretty neat, as is Galveston.

RE: First Annual Iowa Rally 6/20-6/22

We never really thought the emerald ash bug was a big threat to our area/state until yesterday when our local news did a segment about a bunch of infected trees being cut down in one of our suburbs. What a shame!

RE: Can you make cilantro flakes?

I've bought it dried before, and it really seems to lose most of it's intense flavor. I've tried freezing as well and the same thing happens. Fresh cilantro is pretty cheap by us, so I usually buy a bunch every time I shop and keep it on hand.

RE: First Annual Iowa Rally 6/20-6/22

Bummer about the firewood. We just bought 2 face cords for the camping season. Do they sell it at the campground? How's the fishing that time of year? Glen, maybe if your dad can give us some pointers, we might invest in out of state licenses for a few days.

RE: First Annual Iowa Rally 6/20-6/22

We will be there on June 14 to spend the week. Have a full hookup site reserved. I'm sure my daughter and her family will join us. This will probably be our vacation this year. I enjoy camping at Sugar Bottom. Lots of things to do in the area. It's a well maintained campground with clean facilities. I won't be able to haul much wood. I'll see if my SIL can line some up for us. Since we are bringing our boat, we should have a little extra space to bring some wood :) Tom took Friday off - we're thinking of going up Thursday after work. Will anyone else be there early? Do we have a confirmed site number that we will be able to add the extra day?

RE: Campgrounds in/around Rockford, IL

Not sure when your planning your trip, but Pearl Lake in South Beloit is nice. They have a cool swimming lake and a great restaurant.

RE: Need a camp ground in Illinois

Fish Lake Beach in Volo, IL is about 35 miles from Glenview. It is a private park with full hook up sites, and takes reservations.

RE: First Annual Iowa Rally 6/20-6/22

Hi all! You may recall that we couldn't come to the rally because we had vacation plans that weekend. Well, our plans have changed and we will be able to get away for the rally after all. Glen, I sent you a PM. Tom and Renee

RE: Pine Nuts

Do a search for Sicilian Style Stuffed Roulade on the food network. It is a recipe that Emeril featured on one of his shows. We made it and it was outstanding. It was a bit of work, but well worth the effort.

RE: Best Campground for Tenting in the Midwest...

We used to really enjoy camping at Palisades SP in Savannah, IL. There are some really nice primitive sites there - plenty of hiking and scenery. Close to town too if you run out of something.

RE: Lake Louise CG

Chris, Lake Louise is a nice place. We have camped there several times - the seasonal campers there are a very friendly bunch, and seem younger than many places. They have a lot of activities and live entertainment on holiday weekends. Our kids really enjoy the place. It is very close to town and quite convenient. The pool is new and very nice. The sites are a decent size. They have a huge grassy play area with a playground. The things we don't like - the seasonals are up a steep hill from the lake/store/snack shop - but they do allow golf carts for the seasonals. Their restrooms are in serious need of repair/replacement. The overnight camp sites are not well defined - it is hard to tell where one site starts and another ends - there are no pads and the electric/water aren't always on the right side. That being said, if we ever decided on a seasonal site, we would probably go to Timberlake Resort in Mt. Carroll. Right now they have a long waiting list for seasonal sites. But, Lake Louise would be our second choice.

RE: Need destination but no RV!

We went to the Iberostar Grand Paraiso Resort just north of Playa del Carmen in Mexico last November. It is a NEW all inclusive ADULTS ONLY resort. It is high end and somewhat pricey. Awesome food and top shelf liquor. They treat you like royalty. The rooms are very large suites, each having a balcony or patio. It is part of a 5 hotel complex - the other resorts are nice too - a little cheaper but not adults only. We chose the end of November because it is off season, but most of the risk of hurricanes is over. The weather was beautiful. If I had free air tickets I would immediately go there again. (I would go there again even without free air...) It would help justify spending the money on the resort. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/funcampin/IMG_1598.jpg?t=1207490314 http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o131/funcampin/PICT0034.jpg?t=1207490359

RE: orginization tips needed

We put a piece of 3" foam inside the cabinet where we store our cups and glasses. If you cut several circles in the foam and put your glasses in there, they won't tip over and fall out the door when you open it.
